superfood

          Many nutritionists say dragon fruit is a superfood. There are many different types of superfoods nowadays that were not considered superfoods before. This is because nutritionists nowadays have more advanced scientific ways to decide if a particular type of food is a superfood. Many people believe in superfoods but others say it is just hype. A nutritionist is an expert in nutrition. Superfoods are foods that contain many different types of nutrients that doctors say are good for health. The word “hype” means a situation in which something, such as a new product, is repeatedly advertised to convince people it is good.

          There has been a lot of hype in recent years about different types of superfoods. Some studies say berries, nuts, olive oil, and salmon are superfoods. Other studies say kale, spinach, broccoli, coconut oil, and dragon fruit are superfoods. I think people with common sense know what types of food contain nutrients that are good for health and what types of food are unhealthy. For example, white bread, white rice, and cookies contain very few nutrients. But fresh fruit, vegetables, nuts, and fish contain a lot of nutrients. I don’t rush out to buy a type of food when nutritionists say it is a superfood. I just make sure I eat plenty of vegetables, fruit, and fresh seafood and avoid hamburgers, pizzas and French fries even though I love them.

          I like dragon fruit a lot and eat it at least two or three times a week. But I don’t know how to choose dragon fruit at the supermarket. I like dragon fruit that tastes sweet but sometimes the ones I buy taste bland, which means they have very little flavour. It’s always hit and miss, which means sometimes the ones I buy are what I want and other times they are not. It is very difficult to know just by looking at a dragon fruit if it is sweet or bland. I have asked friends for advice but no one could give me any!

          許多營養師(nutritionists)也說火龍果是超級食物(superfood)。有許多不同種類、從前沒有被界定為超級食物(superfoods)的,現在都已被視為超級食物(superfoods)。這是因為現今的營養師(nutritionists)有更先進的科學方法,去決定某一種特定的食物是否超級食物(superfood)。許多人相信超級食物(superfoods)的功效,另一些人則認為那只是一種炒作(hype)。A nutritionist就是營養師、營養學家。Superfoods是蘊含多種營養、醫生認為對身體有莫大裨益的超級食物。Hype是說某物,例如是一件新產品,給大事宣傳或誇張地炒作,以說服人們相信它是好的。

          關於不同種類的超級食物(superfoods),近年確實有許多炒作(hype)。一些研究指,莓果、果仁、橄欖油和三文魚是超級食物(superfoods);另一些研究則說,羽衣甘藍、菠菜、西蘭花、椰子油和火龍果是超級食物(superfoods)。我想,有常識的人都知道,哪一種食物蘊含對健康有益的營養,哪一種食物又是不健康的。譬如,白麵包、白飯和曲奇,含很少的營養,但新鮮水果、蔬菜、果仁和魚,則蘊含很多的營養。當有營養師(nutritionists)說某一種食物是超級食物(superfood)時,我可不會一股腦兒的衝去買。我會確保我有進食大量的蔬菜、水果和新鮮的海鮮,以及避免吃漢堡包、薄餅和薯條,即使我很愛吃這些食物。

          我很喜歡吃火龍果,一星期至少會吃兩至三次。但在超市我總不知道該怎樣挑選火龍果。我喜歡甜甜的火龍果,但有時我會買了些淡而無味的(bland)火龍果。那總是 hit and miss,意思即是碰運氣的、時中時不中,有時買到我想要的,有時卻是不合心意的。單看火龍果的外表,實在很難分辨它是甜的還是淡味的(bland)啊。我也問過一些朋友,但無人能給我甚麼秘訣呢!
