"You haven't seen anything yet"

Take care on December 21 of this year. That is the day a conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn will happen. Such a conjunction brings bad luck if you believe in feng shui. The bad luck will happen not only on December 21 but throughout the Year of the Rat as the two planets get closer. Every Chinese New Year I invite feng shui expert Michael Chiang Hong-man to my TVB English show to predict if it will be a good or bad year. Last year, he predicted the Year of the Pig would be bad because Jupiter and Saturn were getting closer to a conjunction.

Chiang Hong-man accurately predicted wildfires, volcano eruptions, sickness, and a very bad year for Hong Kong and mainland China. Protests in Hong Kong caused by the now-withdrawn extradition bill are in their eighth month. This year, he said on my show bad luck would continue in the Year of the Rat. I said last year was bad enough but he replied: "You ain't seen nothing yet". This American slang expression is unknown to most Hong Kong people. I was surprised Chiang Hong-man knew it. The expression, which has a double negative, is grammatically incorrect but is widely used by Americans. Grammatically, it should be: "You haven't seen anything yet".

It means you have only seen the beginning of something and there is more to come. When Chiang Hong-man said "you ain't seen nothing yet", he meant you have only seen the start of bad luck and there is worse to come.

The word "conjunction" means two planets appearing to be in the same, or nearly the same place in the sky. Chiang Hong-man said in addition to the bad luck caused by the conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn, Pluto will be above Earth, which means more bad luck. Every year, he brings a chart to my show on how to avoid bad luck in your home. You can see this chart in my column in Headline Daily's Popnews or watch my show on TVB's website.

You haven't seen anything yet".

當蔣匡文說 "you ain't seen nothing yet."
