have egg on their faces.

Now that supermarkets are gradually replenishing shelves with daily necessities, the selfish people who hoarded rice, toilet paper, kitchen towels and other things must have egg on their faces. Most Hong Kong apartments are miniscule (very small). The people who hoarded rice, toilet paper, and boxes of tissue paper have made their living space even more miniscule. They must be kicking themselves now that supermarket shelves are being replenished. When I went to the supermarket last week, I was able to buy most of the things I needed. There were bags of rice and toilet paper galore. No one was fighting to buy them.

I am so glad I didn't hoard anything a few weeks ago when Hong Kong people behaved as if the world was coming to an end. The word "replenish" means to fill something up again. People who go to buffets often replenish their plates several times. To hoard something means to store up a large amount of something. If you have egg on your face, it means you look stupid or embarrassed because of something you did. The people who hoarded multiple bags of rice will have to throw some away because rice can go bad in hot and humid weather if kept for too long. To kick yourself means to be annoyed or angry with yourself for doing something stupid. The word "galore" means in large numbers or amounts.

Supermarkets now even have hand sanitizers galore although the prices have gone up. In the past one or two weeks I have noticed price increases by Hong Kong's two major supermarket chains for items that people were not hoarding. For example, the price for a pack of two frozen salmon fillets has gone up by $10. The price for skimmed milk has also gone up. This is shameful price-gouging, which means charging customers too much for something. US online retailer Amazon said last week it would not allow sellers to use the coronavirus to price-gouge the cost of facemasks. I hope Hong Kong's supermarkets will have the same moral standards.

若你have egg on your face,意即你出醜了,因為自己所作的而看來很尷尬、狼狽。
