上世紀七十年代佳視製造鼎足而立的局面雖然以失敗告終，但當時老闆林氏兄弟的發展方針和管理模式如何，懂內情的人有目共睹。其實在觀眾面前，佳視製作了一系列高質素節目，也掀起了金庸熱潮，更培養了一批頂級藝人如米雪、白彪甚至鄭裕玲。
有線是上市公司，規模、制度和資金都遠比當年佳視為大，而且運作專業，最重要是瓣數多，廿四小時新聞固然是主打，還有超勁的體育台，直播多項頂級聯賽、盃賽及世界盃，再輔以不偏不倚的專業賽馬節目，是目前收費的支柱。近年有線銳意發展娛樂及娛樂新聞，亦培養了不少新秀。以上已奠定的基石，與亞視及無線分庭抗禮實在綽綽有餘。
對觀眾而言，有線的專業水準會激勵對手力求上進；對藝人及管理人材，更提供發展機會；對廣告客戶，推廣渠道也有更多選擇。
