外國不少馬圈中人都識飲識食，如要搞一個成功的賽馬嘉年華會，飲食欠佳的城市是唔駛諗的。
墨爾本是澳洲美食之都，揉合歐洲文化及亞洲風采。無論是法國菜、意大利菜、日本與中國菜，都有頂級名廚坐陣，吃的是地道風味之餘，還有世界頂級名餐廳如Nobu、Atlatic、Rockpool等有分店，對老饗來說，天天也可大快朵頤，其樂無窮。
除了廚藝，食材最緊要新鮮，海鮮固然供應充足，難得的是澳洲和牛質量好，無論是西式或日式意法抑或只是生牛肉，一樣可口。
更難得的是若早了起床，又不想吃酒店自助早餐，墨爾本唐人街一樣有早茶飲，連粥也夠火喉，芋角落足料，蛋撻也是酥皮。這邊的點心師父不少在港時是高手，八十年代憑技術移民來澳，手藝出眾。不少以前是打工，現在已是老闆，要求質量自然更高。
這個墨爾本之旅單是食已值回票價，還未計賽馬帶來的無窮樂趣，明年我必再來。
