滿利谷馬會主席史嘉堡更是著名馬主兼育馬者，佳駟如雲，包括前短途馬王Gold Ace以及長途氣袋「雲石殿」，他的綠藍綵衣，已揚威墨爾本盃大賽多次。
維多利亞省賽馬局現任副主席萊士頓，是著名馬販兼馬主，香港有好幾位知名馬主都是透過他揀馬，而二○一○年墨爾本盃盟主「美利堅」更是他得意之作。估計明年萊士頓會接任維多利亞省賽馬局主席一職，繼續服務馬圈。
這些崗位不只是飲飲食食，交際應酬又或是頒頒獎咁簡單，而且真的懂得賽馬業界發展方向，從而督促受薪的彼邦馬會或賽馬局總裁前進。換句話說，他們是船長，總裁只是掌舵，執行決策。
這個模式在澳洲行之有效多時，每每能成功地從政府或投注局爭取到最大業界利益。當然在世界各地是否行得通，有待考證。
