"take a leak"

         I rarely go to see movies. I get angry and cannot concentrate when people sitting near me talk or slurp their drinks during a movie. To slurp means to make a loud sucking noise while drinking. That's why I prefer to watch DVD movies in the comfort of my home with a glass of wine and potato chips. I can pause （temporarily stop） the movie if I need to get more wine or take a leak. To "take a leak" is a slang expression that means to urinate. But last week former chief executive Donald Tsang Yam-kuen invited me to a private showing of the Hong Kong movie Weeds on Fire at the Director's Club. The Director's Club is a posh （luxurious'deluxe） cinema for just 16 people.

        　　I was able to concentrate because none of Tsang Yam-kuen's guests talked or slurped their drinks during the movie. I sat next to the director, Steve Chan Chi-fat, an affable （friendly, likeable） young man. The movie is based on the true story of the Sha Tin Martins, a 1980s baseball team made up of underprivileged （disadvantaged, poor） students. Pressured by the school's principal to have confidence in themselves, the Sha Tin Martins did the impossible. They defeated the strong Japanese team in an important competition. The movie Weeds on Fire has a special meaning for Tsang Yam-kuen. He was the Sha Tin district officer in the mid-1980s and helped to get money for the school to train the team. When he became chief executive he also started the government's Film Development Fund, which gave $2 million to finance the movie.

        　　Weeds on Fire is a low-budget （small amount of money） movie because it was made with only $2 million. But it is an interesting and feel-good movie. A "feel-good" movie is a movie that makes you feel happy and good after you see it. The cast （actors and actresses） of the movie was also there. I had a feel-good feeling when I saw them. The movie has the message that the 1980s was the golden age for Hong Kong. I agree. I hope Hong Kong can find a new golden age soon.

         我很少去看電影。若在觀賞電影期間，坐在附近的人談話，或者嘖嘖聲地喝（slurp）他們的飲料，我會很憤怒，也集中不到精神看戲。To slurp 就是喝東西時很大聲地吸吮。因此我情願安坐家中看DVD電影，以薯片和一杯酒相伴。若我要多些酒，或是想撒個尿（take a leak），那便可以暫停（pause）電影播放。「take a leak」是個俚語說法，就是去小解。但上星期，前特首曾蔭權邀請我去 Director's Club看香港電影《點五步》的私映會。Director's Club是個豪華的（posh）影院，只有十六個座位。

        　　我當天可以聚精會神地看戲，因為沒一個曾蔭權的嘉賓在看戲期間聊天或者吮飲（slurped）甚麼。我坐在導演陳志發的身旁，他是個和藹可親的（affable）年輕人。電影改編自一九八○年代沙燕隊的真實故事，那是由一群較為清貧弱勢的（underprivileged）學生所組成的棒球隊。校長一直催迫他們增強自信，致使沙燕隊終能成就不可能，在一場重要比賽中打敗一支很強的日本隊。《點五步》對於曾蔭權來說有特殊意義：他在一九八○年代中期是沙田區的政務專員，幫助學校籌得資助訓練這個隊伍；他當上特首時，也開展了政府的電影發展基金，向這套電影撥了二百萬元的資金。

        　　《點五步》是個非常低預算（low-budget）的電影，因為它只用了二百萬元拍攝。但它是齣很有趣和feel-good的電影。「A feel-good movie」就是看過後令你感到舒暢愉快的電影。電影的演員（cast）都在現場，我見到他們時也感到愉悅（feel-good）。電影有個訊息，就是一九八○年代是香港的黃金時代，這個我也認同。我希望香港能夠在不久將來，就能找到另一個新的黃金時代。中譯：七刻
