        　　An invitation that came out of the blue last week took me down memory lane. When something comes out of the blue, it means it comes suddenly and unexpectedly. A friend invited me to a concert by legendary (very famous) Hong Kong performers Sam Hui Koon-kit and Alan Tam Wing-lun. The invitation came out of the blue because I had not expected anyone to invite me to the sellout concert. I accepted the invitation because I wouldn’t miss such a concert for the world. I knew the concert would take me down memory lane. To go down “memory lane” means to walk along an imaginary lane thinking of your past memories. When something is a “sellout” it means all the tickets are sold.

        　　The expression “wouldn’t miss it for the world” means you will definitely go to an event even if someone offered to give you the world if you didn’t go. A social enterprise called Sounds Great, which produces audio books, invited me to both the concert and a pre-concert reception. Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor and many VIPs were at the reception. Then something else came out of the blue. Hui Koon-kit and Tam Wing-lun suddenly came to the reception dressed in the costumes (clothes) for the first part of their concert. I didn’t know they would attend too. It was a blast from the past for me to see Sam. If you suddenly see someone from the past whom you have not seen for a long time, you can say: “Seeing him was a blast from the past.”

        　　I knew Sam when I was a young reporter and he was a famous singer. I took pictures with him and Alan at the reception. They both said they liked my TVB shows. Sounds Great is closely connected to the entertainment industry and has produced many audio books about famous Hong Kong entertainers, including Sam and Alan. I looked at some of the audio books at the reception. The Cantopop songs Sam and Alan sang at the concert took me down memory lane. Thanks to Sounds Great for my blast from the past when I saw Sam.

        　　上星期一個突如其來（out of the blue）的邀請，帶我走進了回憶之中緬懷一番（took me down memory lane）。當某事來得 out of the blue，即它是突然間、毫無預示、出乎意料的來到。一位朋友邀請我去鼎鼎有名（legendary）的香港歌手許冠傑和譚詠麟的演唱會。這個邀請出乎我意料之外（out of the blue），因為我從未預計有人會邀請我到這場門票被搶購一空（sellout）的演唱會。我接受了邀請，因為我無論如何都不會錯過這樣的一場演唱會（wouldn’t miss such a concert for the world）。我知道這場演唱會將會帶我走進回憶的長廊（memory lane）之中。To go down “memory lane”意思就是在一條想像中滿載回憶的長廊漫步，追憶往昔。當某事是個 sellout，即是說它的門票已經售罄。

        　　習語“wouldn’t miss it for the world”意即你一定會去那個活動，即使有人提出以全世界來跟你交換，你亦無動於衷。一個製作有聲書、名為「好聲」的社企，邀請我去演唱會和演唱會前的酒會。特首林鄭月娥也有來到酒會，還有許多的貴賓。然後另一件突如其來（out of the blue）的事發生了——許冠傑和譚詠麟穿着演唱會開首演出時的歌衫（costumes），突然現身酒會。我事前不知道他們也會出席呢。可以見到許冠傑，真是a blast from the past。若你突然見到一位已經很久沒見又幾乎遺忘了的故人，令你有很大的觸動，那你就可以說：“Seeing him was a blast from the past.”

        　　認識許冠傑的時候我還是個年輕的記者，而他當時已是個當紅的歌手。我在酒會跟他和譚詠麟合照，他們二人都說喜歡看我在無線的節目。「好聲」與演藝界有緊密聯繫，也為知名的香港藝人，包括許冠傑和譚詠麟，製作不少的有聲書。我在酒會期間也看過一些有聲書。許和譚在演唱會中唱的那些廣東歌，又帶我走進了回憶的長廊（memory lane）。感謝「好聲」，讓我能再遇許冠傑，一下子喚醒了我潛藏心底的美好回憶（blast from the past）。
