在美國生活時，我除了在中餐館工作，也以炒賣為生。我曾為別人修理電腦、買賣舊單車、買賣舊車、賣熱狗、在街邊幫人洗車等，還有改寫我一生的炒iPhone。
二○○七年，Steve Jobs發佈劃時代的智能電話iPhone。當時最大的智能電話廠商Motorola、Nokia和軟件商Microsoft等，均一致否定iPhone的實用性及市場價值。世界各大傳媒也對Steve Jobs從電腦走向智能電話的舉動充滿懷疑，說他這外行人又再瘋了，做些奇怪事，以為能做盛極一時的iPod便懂做電話等。儘管有不少果迷支持，但市場普遍對沒有鍵盤、沒有Stylus筆，還要用手觸控屏幕的iPhone抱不信任態度，但現實卻背道而馳。
我是經常活躍在eBay的賣家，常找不同的東西放在eBay賣，郵票、DVD、遊戲以至古董相機和二手車都有。iPhone最初推出時，我沒特別留意，不感興趣，因為iPhone對我來說太貴了，當時定價是四百九十九/五百九十九美元。有一天我在eBay上發現不被看好的iPhone竟是最多人搜尋的產品之一，我花了點時間來研究，驚覺iPhone都被炒至二、三千美元。
我好奇地每天追看在eBay上的iPhone銷情，記錄成交數據，發現價錢有增無減。原來全世界有許多果迷想盡快試一下他們偶像Steve Jobs的新產品，奈何iPhone只在美國開售，造成大短缺。分析後我膽粗粗地用了銀行裏僅有的幾百元美金積蓄到Apple Store買了人生第一部iPhone，懷着撿小便宜心態：要是賣不掉便拿回去退。由此開始我的「炒iPhone大計」。
我研究iPhone行情，發現已被解鎖及越獄的iPhone賣得最多、最好。我花了兩天不眠不休像打網絡遊戲般，不斷找Google大神問如何解鎖iPhone。那時解鎖過程十分繁複，經多番嘗試，終被我搞定了。我二話不說把已解鎖的iPhone放上eBay賣，誰知不出十五分鐘，已賣出。（待續）
