首先，我設計了幾個十分專業的eBay拍賣Post，每天如追蹤恒生指數般分析iPhone的競投情況（Volume）、成交價（Final Price）和一口價（Buy it Now），用以制定該周的策略，務求將價格定位在既不是最貴、也不是最便宜的範圍之中。慢慢地，每天我只需花約三十分鐘便能處理當天要刊登的拍賣。最費時的反而是包裝、打印地址及寄出等物流程序。
其次就是用盡不同辦法來增加入貨來源。我由最初只到Apple Store直接購買，發展到在分類廣告網站刊登廣告來吸引賣家出讓iPhone給我。那時我經常逃學並和好幾位朋友輪流開車到灣區不同的Apple Store入貨。我已忘了這段時間維持了多久，但當時業務的確蒸蒸日上，我也成為了eBay的「Power Seller」。
可是，世事總是不似預期。多得愈來愈多我這種買iPhone再解鎖炒賣的賣家，Apple終於出手制止。第一招是禁止買家使用現金在門市購入iPhone，一眾客戶只能使用信用卡，而每張卡限買五部。政策一出，我只好把所有朋友的信用卡都借來使用。不久後，Apple再發功，將限購數量減至兩部。整個炒賣市場立即出現供應短缺，大部份eBay的Power Seller都慢慢地因沒貨賣而靜下來。這突變一時間令我也大失方寸。
剛好有天在超市Target購物時，我留意到有Visa、Master和American Express的預付卡賣。我買了一張並儲值了數百美元進去，豈知真的能用那種卡像信用卡般買iPhone！那刻就像發現新大陸一樣驚喜。
隨後，我開始拿著大量現金到不同地方大規模購買同類預付卡。有一次，在其中一間大型超市內，收款員因看到我有大量現金而生疑並報了警，嚇得我六神無主，最終我把事情因由一一如盤托出。而那本來嚴肅的警察了解過後，只說了一句類似「That's very smart！」的話便放我離開了。
基於這個「開心大發現」，那段時間我成為了eBay上少數還有貨的iPhone賣家。在這段貨源短缺的期間，價錢更升了不少。我把握這短暫的機會，將接下來大學要用上的學費都賺了回來。賣iPhone一役對我來說可謂「百年難得機會」。
我開始掌握如何分析賺錢機會，體會到觀察力的重要，及如何克服心理障礙，將想法付諸行動。這一切都不知不覺地為我將來創業做了準備。
