Do you have an eye for art?

Do you have an eye for art? I must admit I do not have an eye for art. But I feel you don’t have to have an eye for art to appreciate art. Some months ago, I was in Europe for a family reunion. I went to museums and churches, which had many different types of art. I enjoyed looking at them even though I don’t have an eye for art. The expression “have an eye for something” means being good at noticing and making judgments about valuable things or things of good quality. The word “art” is used to describe beautiful things or things that express feelings, such as paintings and sculptures, which are made with creative skill.

Last week, I went to a fashion photography exhibition called Beyond Fashion at a place called ArtisTree at Taikoo Place. It was organized by Swire Properties. There has long been a debate about whether photography is a type of art, like painting and drawing. But nowadays, people with an eye for art agree photography is definitely a type of art. At first, when I entered the Beyond Fashion exhibition, I thought the photographs on display were paintings because they looked like paintings. My hosts told me they were, in fact, photographs by famous fashion photographers. The photographs were so out of this world that I looked at each one from different angles to enjoy them.

If something is out of this world, it means it is extraordinary and extremely good. The famous photographers took fashion photographs in a very unusual way. The photographs on display at Beyond Fashion are so out of this world that it’s impossible for me to describe them. You have to see them for yourself. I am sure you will think they are paintings even though they are photographs. If you want to see them, you should hurry. The exhibition ends on February 24. You should also go before 2.30 in the afternoon because it closes at 2.30.

你有鑑賞藝術的眼光(have an eye for art)嗎?我得承認我沒有鑑賞藝術的眼光(have an eye for art),但我覺得,你不必有鑑賞藝術的眼光(have an eye for art),也能欣賞藝術(art)。 即使我沒有鑑賞藝術的眼光(have an eye for art),我仍享受觀賞它們。習語have an eye for something的意思是有鑑賞的眼光,能識別某物的價值或品質。

若某事是out of this world,即是說它是非凡的、極好的。
