"Our Friends in the North" is a British television drama produced by the BBC and originally broadcast in 1996. It tells the story of four friends from Newcastle upon Tyne over a 31 year period from 1964 to 1995.

Through the evolving storyline, the work also concentrates on real political and social events in Britain during the era, including general elections, police and local government corruption and the UK miners strike.
The serial is commonly regarded as one of the most successful BBC television dramas of the 1990s.

As part of the BFI's "Radical Television Drama" series at the BFI South Bank, they are screening one of the ground breaking episodes by Peter Flannery.

Loyalties to family, community and political principles are tested to breaking point in this episode set in 1984. With the miners' strike taking hold, police brutality is actively used to hold the line and contain 'the enemy within'.

After the screening their will be a panel discussion which will include writer Peter Flannery and Christopher Eccleston who performed in the series (way before Dr Who!)

Tickets are £9 however please note there are very few left and will go very quickly therefore if you are interested in this event, don't mess around on the buying your ticket front- otherwise they will be gone!!!
