My daughter is studying in Y10 in Melbourne. She has decided to do IBDP next year. She would like to do 7 subjects (Chinese Language A, English Language B, Spanish ab initio, Economics, Biology, Chemistry and Maths) instead of 6. We have received opinions from her school and some friends that it is very unlikely to take 7 subjects because of the heavy workload. Moreover, only the best 6 subjects will be considered. My daughter may consider doing medicine in university, so she must study Chemistry and believe that Biology may give her some advantages. Spanish seems to be an easy paper to her. We are advised that there may be a chance that if the result of English is poorer than Spanish (they are in the same group), then English will be the 7th subject to be excluded in the IB results but only show in a certificate. Is our understanding correct? Please also give us some advice on doing 6 or 7 subjects.

答:

I don't think so, you have to discuss what your school is, and English is very important for medicine and is the medium teaching language.

囝囝正在英國讀a-level, 今年A-level result 4A(but not each subject over 90%), 意願想回港選醫科, 但競爭很大, 英國亦有困難找placement,故改選香港藥劑及英國Bio-med / Bio-Chem考慮將來再接醫科, 可否給予意見 UCAS選科部署: Oxford - Bio med, Imperial Bio med, UCL Bio Med, Bristol - Medicine, 另一所醫科大學

藥劑是否出路較窄, 如完成Bio-med / Bio-Chem出路如何呢?

Bio Chem 競爭較細，畢業後多在實驗室工作；藥劑則屬一個專業，不能說其出路窄。畢業生前景最終都是取決於學生個人能力與性格，選科可以興趣行先。
