Francis問:I have read your column on the June 6 edition regarding the deal between the Swedish brokerage firm and the cement factory in Henan, PRC. As a matter of fact, this kind of deal is very common in Europe, not in US (US is the last developed country to sign the Kyoto Protocol). HSBC has purchased 170K carbon creditsin 2005 to offset its Q4 carbon emmission by investing in four different projects including a windfarm in New Zealand, a methane capture facility in Germany, a composting facility in Australia and a biomass cogeneration project in India. A lot of large corporations such as News Corp and Royal Mail plan to be carbon neutral and others plan to reduce their carbon footprint significantly. Cathay Pacific has also announced that similar offset program will be launched later this year. It can be forseen that more and more corporations will take similar action. I absolutely agree that the HK government should be more proactive, encouraging less driving, using less electricity, tax benefit for carbon offset etc. Remember a good rewarding system is more effective than a punishing system.
其實學位只能幫你起步,卻不是前途的保證。
其實,中國現時是世界上碳排放交易中,佔超過四成份額的最大交易國。
