傳統上要挑戰法國凱旋門大賽這場歐洲長途馬爭霸戰，一定要熱身充足，而九月份的尼爾錦標(三歲馬)及福伊錦標(年長馬)都是重要熱身指標。但「臨泰來」不單只不跑，而是跑完英皇鑽石錦標(七月尾)便直指十月初的凱旋門大賽。
一九九五年的凱旋門水準其實拍得住甚至好過「勇舞」贏「白令」的一屆，除「臨泰來」外，有上屆盟主「嘉年傑」，有繼後贏日本盃的「大地」，有兩匹香港瓶盟主「派得好」及「牢騷」，有葉森橡樹及愛爾蘭打比雙料盟主「百利錢」，有愛爾蘭及約克郡雙料橡樹盟主「純穀物」。而「鄉村情郎」今仗之前是五出未敗雄師，繼後九六及九七年也贏英皇鑽石錦標。
結果？在直路上「自由之聲」「鄉村情郎」雙雙夾擊前領的「臨泰來」，看似馬王要首回落敗，但「臨泰來」在戴圖理力騎之下再使出看家本領，終點反先，就此保住這場世紀凱旋門大賽。
雖然日後到日本配種是個錯誤決定，「臨泰來」未能替「尼真斯基」一系發揚光大。但牠的豐功偉績，相信令真正愛馬之輩印象難忘。
