傳統上聖誕節正日世界，各地都無馬跑，好讓大家一起慶祝或上教堂崇拜。
不過，美國和澳紐都一定有拆禮物日賽馬，讓人們在聖誕日後歡聚，彼邦馬會通常會在場內都大派禮物，與馬迷同樂。曾幾何時，紐西蘭打吡更曾安排在拆禮物日進行，到近年因遷就馬匹成熟的進度，賽期已改於三月。
香港在殖民地時代，馬會通常會遷就當時英籍高層抽空回鄉過聖誕與家庭團聚，故早於十二月中就已舉行年底最後一次賽事，聖誕前後停火兩周，至元旦日才復賽。
回歸後，香港則試過與外國看齊，在拆禮物日開快車，卻不會安排大賽。可能是擔心有不少市民外遊，入場人數不太多，投注額也遠比不上過農曆年。
今年跑十二月廿八日，個人覺得是個上佳安排。跑完十二月二十日周末，大家可開始放假及過冬，聖誕休戰時更可外遊，到廿八號周日才放眼跑馬，廿九號周一上班，節目妥當。須注意的是廿八日跑足十一場，兼且直播日本有馬紀念，大可追四不少周中休戰的投注額。
