有朋友問為何近來的外國拍賣會，有部分第一季出現的新種居然要二十萬甚至以上拍賣價成交，而且有不少西人讚好云云。
大家都知道我喜歡買新種，當年Danehill Dancer澳洲首胎子嗣「富有心得」，「羅馬聖君」被揶揄矮細我卻購入「好好計」等，都是價錢便宜，但奉勸各位買家，認清楚向你們大力推介新種的西人背景，有時你們就明白為何有些新種貴得驚人。
如西人是拍賣行代表，記住南半球拍賣行是收賣方佣金，多叫幾個人出價以抬高價錢自然是最好；如果那西人是該種馬有關連人士(如種馬的練馬師或目前替種馬主人練馬，又或是種馬主人的代理)，你們就要更加小心。
新種是無成功的證據︰儘管你是競賽上的馬王﹛配種也可能會一事無成。第一季的新種，最應睇緊自己的預算，型格好，母系成功的，不妨一試，但切忌出高價。甚麼是高價？我自己的預算是配種費兩倍是合理，三倍以上已是偏高！
