Unauthorised charges by D…oo.
Do check your credit card statements.
In early March, I [i.e., my friend] noticed from the Bank credit card statements that D…oo (an online food delivery chain) charged me $100 in January and $98 in February for “D…oo Plus”.
I checked the D… account of my daughter and mine. We haven’t enrolled for the program.
Next, I called the Bank card centre but they said I have to check with the online shop. The bank may only stop the old card and issue a new card to me. I don’t want a new card.
Then I emailed D…oo. Different people replied and they merely asked for more information.
When I found $98 was again charged in late March, I called a telephone number showing on the bank statement and it turned out to be the customer service hotline.
After a couple of days, they found out the D…oo account for which my credit card was charged. But they refused to tell me the owner of that account citing privacy concerns.
Instead, D…oo provided me a code and phone number to ask the Bank to contact them to reverse the charges. I contacted the Bank accordingly.
It transpired that D…oo charged my credit card for D…oo Plus “supposedly” enrolled by Ms. C, an old colleague, when Ms. C contacted me after she has received an email from D…oo
The ex-colleague helped me to order food via D…oo with payment made through my credit card for several times.
Neither the ex-colleague nor I could figure out why D…oo. would have treated her account to have enrolled for “D…oo Plus” with payment by my credit card.
As of today, all charges are reversed.
The moral of the incident is be careful while ordering online. Choose to buy from reputable sources.
