想得太多,因為想得到太多?還是不想失去太多呢?

學習,就是為著不想沒有太多~~

因此,把這篇blog打完再貼到這兒,才能停止「貼不貼呢?貼不貼呢?」這種心思舉動……

Film-- The Interpreter  (是篇文章已上存於意粉之學子劄記http://blog.eduplus.com.hk//ivinaQXZ/myblog_detail.jsp?post_id=1132)

(A casual review? Maybe ‘report’ is a more  accurate word…)

Just finished watching the film-- The Interpreter. For fun, also for deeper understanding about how English can be used through daily life, especially for employment purposes. I'm getting into the final University year as a Public Relations student, knowing that having more international concepts can prove me better success.

I've got a habit of jotting down notes whenever listening to English even for leisure. 2 hours, 4 A4 papers this time… While some are just for personal reference and some for trapping the flow of the contents, colloquial sentences are the main dish for paying so much effort. When inspiring blast out from the scenes, I would also take notes, ‘Helicopter flying—the scale of the event is really serious’…

Above are vocabularies, phrasal verbs and colloquial sentences I took down to sense more when speaking in English:

-         Peace, security, freedom, commodities

-         Request for

-         I didn’t mean it

-         If I’m permitted to say

-         To address

-         Name card—symbol

-         On guard

-         I don’t care, I wouldn’t mind

-         To accomplish

-         People handle __(adversities)  in different____(ways)

-         We’ve got to promise, right?

-         I’ll be right there

-         I’m sending email to you, can you print out that?

-         Photo there yet?

-         Any leaks? Maybe one.

-         What I’m doing is listening

-         The only way to end grief is to save a life

-         Life is always just…

-         Called 911 (In America)

-         Standing on opposite side, Get a reason to get to a side

-         Not a very cool thing to do

-         There won’t be time for a second one!!!

-         We’re not doing that any

-         To arrange meeting

-         24-hour shift

-         Have them eyed

-         To let them go, to move on

-         I didn’t think it’s the way supposed to be done

-         Don’t be ridiculous

-         It was once, not anymore

-         Ladies and gentlemen, gate__ is ready to close

-         Freeze!!!!!!!!!!!

-         A danger to the community

-         Crimes against humanity

Apart from recording new things to learn, brainstorming words related to the film but not mentioned in the film can also help one to have more contact with the language wanted to learn better. There possibly be always words you know but forgot how to define, especially when having to differentiate their meanings from some other words:

1. Reporter—
a person employed to gather, prepare official reports and report news, as for a newspaper, wire service, or television station.

(Paraphrased from explanations of www.dictionary.com)

2. war correspondent--

a reporter or commentator assigned to send news or opinions directly from battle areas.

(From explanations of www.dictionary.com)

3. journalist—
a person who practices the occupation or profession of journalism.(From explanations of www.dictionary.com)

4. lie detector--
A polygraph (a test using such an instrument to determine if a person is telling the truth.) used to detect possible deception during an interrogation.
(Information from www.dictionary.com)

5. stick up--
to rob, esp. at gunpoint.
Sample sentence: A lone gunman stuck up the gas station.
(Explanation and sample sentence from www.dictionary.com)

6. stick up for

to speak in favor of; come to the defense of; support.
Sample sentence: She always sticks up for him, even though he doesn't deserve it.
(Explanation and sample sentence from www.dictionary.com)

7. corpse/ carcass –
dead bodies
(Information from Yahoo’s online dictionary)

8. closed-circuit television—
a system of televising by cable to designated viewing sets, as within a factory for monitoring production operations, in a theater for viewing a special event taking place elsewhere, or in an office building as an aid to maintaining security.
(From explanations of www.dictionary.com)

So, what’s ‘The Interpreter’ about? Not necessary a love story, neither just for telling people how daunting interpretation would be. It’s about values, human concepts, decisions, and, last but not least, culture-- an international one-- in my point of view. The message of this film might be related to war, honesty and humanity, though.

用心找找會發現當中夾雜著用字問題,但這些都需要多寫多改改才能進步啊!寫得多,腦海能浮出的字詞也會增多,不寫不放出來,就覺得人生和文章以及學習道路孤寂無味……所以大家對意粉也很重要呢,嘻~~
