中國馬匹有六百多萬隻，但純種馬只有三千，而其中只有四百匹在血統名冊有登記。這個紀錄相信令不少出席亞洲賽馬會議的人詫異。
而中國究竟有沒有高速發展賽馬的可行性，在會議中最後一節「中國賽馬及育馬業」裏，麥建華博士的發言，告訴各位中國目前體育運動的制度，大家就可一目了然。
簡單地告訴各位，賽馬事宜由中央透過體育局轄下中國馬術協會負責。賽馬發展根本是中央事宜，個別地方當然可興建馬場，但業界的監管及發展，權在中央。
而大家更要明白的是賽馬博彩目前在內地是非法的，短期內若要改變，難度甚高。
固然中國馬術協會代表在講詞中，也說歡迎世界各國一起研究未來發展，但能否高速運行，機會不高。
而會中也展示了不少興建好的馬場，現在卻已荒廢，甚至只變成停車場。地方政府說到天花龍鳳，中央叫停，甚麼也阻不了。個別馬場只是跑了一次便遭禁賽，可悲。
