Last week, I bought an electronic toy car for my brother’s birthday, sadly that batteries are not included in the box, so I went to a Hong Kong batteries stores to buy some batteries. I have never been that amazed by the great variety of batteries in the store.

There are different shapes and sizes of batteries, such as AA, AAA, C, D, 6V, 9V, button shape and some speciality batteries.  I want to look for a bottom cell for my toys, so I went straight to the button cell column. The shopkeeper told me that there are three most common kinds of button cell, including Silver Oxide button cell, Zinc Air button cell and Alkaline button cell etc. I can hardly distinguish them.

When I was about to make the payment, an interesting poster caught my eye. It is promoting the use of rechargeable batteries to replace disposable batteries. It mentions that using rechargeable batteries is a win-win option for both consumers and environment, consumer not only save money in buying HK batteries, but also fewer solid wastes is generated to the environment. I can’t imagine batteries can be recycled! I think this is another option for replacing the one-time disposable batteries.

Lastly, I also bought rechargeable batteries for my new electronic toy car. I learnt that everyone is paying an effort to use HK batteries in a more environmentally friendly way. If you would also love to know more about rechargeable batteries or any other Hong Kong batteries that can be recycled (e.g. speciality batteries), you may go to gp recyko to see what types of rechargeable batteries on the market.
