Liverpool 1 Arsenal 2

The first half of the match was frustrating , although Torres missed the chance and Gerrad should have got penalty after Gallas tackled him in the box . But I felt there must be a goal conceded by whatever way and that is ... a cheap foul by Denilson first then a cheap mistake by Almunia who couldn't punch the ball away and then Kuyt scored the ball through the legs of Gallas.. what a lousy goal !!! So 1-0 down .

Cesc said that Wenger was upset and these young millionaires did not deserve to wear the Arsenal's shirt at halftime.. and it seemed Wenger woke them up..

Jockey club offered 12-1 for Arsenal to come back and win the match , if i know such incident happened at half time I really would put a few bucks to try my luck..but at that time i could not convince myself which two players can score ..I counted Arshavin but I wouldn't be naive enough to dream what he has done in april , would repeat again.

Then we found out Glen Johnson's own goal which equalized for Arsenal in 50 min , and the stunning shot by Arshavin 7 mins later which was enough to take 3 points at Anfield..

The goal just like a bullet..watch this !!

Lucky ? Of course the own goal was pure lucky , the penalty was not given was lucky too...But we need that as a compensation after RVP suffered a long term injury which was really unlucky as well ..

Next game , away at Burnley .. on wednesday night ... I really wish Arshavin can keep his feet healthy and we still have two matches before the Chrismas break..

Arshavin rocket relegates Rafa from Big Four?

By Myles Palmer

Liverpool 1 Arsenal 2

Kuyt 41, Johnson o.g. 50, Arshavin 58

Russian wizard Andrey Arshavin scored an amazing winner, after starting the move that led to the equaliser at Anfield, where he scored four goals in April.

Arsenal are third with 31 points, while Liverpool have 24 points, having played a game less. Birmingham also have 24 points.

Rafa Benitez has now admitted he is managing the debt, rather than strengthening the team. He has wasted a ton of money and Liverpool's owners are cowboys whose leveraged buy-out would be illegal in USA. You cannot borrow the money to buy a sports franchise and pout the debt on the balance sheet in USA or in Europe. That's only legal in the deregulated Wild West of the good ole United Kingdom of greed, spin and lies. American cowboys love the Wild West? No surprise there.

Liverpool need new owners now. Today.

Bu that won't happen. They look like slipping out of the Big Four. All along, it's looked like that kind of season, one with unexpected results, one where the status quo would be disturbed. This game was a big opportunity for Liverpool as well as for Arsenal. The winner would look good, if there was a winner. The loser might be in danger of relegation from the Big Four.

In simple terms, Arsenal lost the first half 1-0 but won the second 2-0.

All week I had a feeling Stevie Gerrard would have one of his clumsy games. But when Gerrard released Torres beyond the Arsenal defence after only 11 minutes, the striker scuffed his shot tamely towards Almunia.

Torres was too rusty to score from 17 yards from that chance. A minute later, Gerard went past Gallas in the box, miscontrolling the ball, Gallas clattered him, and Howard Webb did not give a penalty. Later on Gallas fouled Torres just outside the box and Webb didn’t give that either.

After 15 minutes I thought: Aston Villa will be third tonight. Kuyt was having a nightmare but so was Traore and I couldn't see where a goal was coming form. Almunia tried to catch a corner and spilled it.

First 25 I'm thinking, Arsenal are garbage. Song is awful, Walcott is even worse than I thought he would be, Walcott's authoring a series of children's books? Great idea ! Pursue another career, son, as soon as you can! Traore is a passenger, Nasri's invisible, Fabregas hasn't been the same player since the World Cup draw, Almunia will always be a clown, do Arsenal have five players on this pitch? Against a team that is seventh, and just knocked out of the Champions League, they look  discombobulated, staggery, like survivors of a plane crash. Where's the passing? They're trying to hit Arshavin with 30-yard balls through the air ! Get forward, get round him, give him the ball to feet, support him, you morons! This is the worst half I’ve ever seen Arsenal play at Anfield. This is, truly, no exaggeration, the worst half I've ever seen Arsenal play at Anfield,  given how average this Liverpool team is !!!! And Liverpool will get a goal before half-time for sure.

In 41 minutes, Liverpool's worst player scored. How many times have you seen the worst player score the goal? 150 times?

Aurelio's free-kick came over, Almunia's two-handed slap went to Kuyt, who chested the ball and poked it in past Gallas on the line.

Half -time, Wenger gave them an almighty bollocking. He told them they weren't fit to wear the shirt. He said they hadn't won any of the 50-50s. And his fury woke the team up.

The build-up on the equaliser was significant : Agger followed Arshavin into centrefield, Arshavin got his cute short pass in to Fabregas, who released Nasri on the right, and his cross was early and low as Walcott ran towards the six yard box from the left flank. Arshavin was missing from the middle, so was Agger, the cross beat Carragher and the panicking, wrong-footed Johnson toepoked it past Reina for 1-1.

Then a Fabregas cross with pace beat the diving, jumping Agger and reached Arshavin on the edge of the box. His electric reaction left Johnson for dead and his instant shot was phenomenal. The ball went in off the inside of the post, high up, with Reina not diving.

"This is a finish of immense, immense quality," said Andy Gray.

Arsenal came from behind to win at Anfield with an own-goal and a wondergoal.

Alan Hansen said Arsenal never turned up in the first half. Wenger put that down to fear. After losing big games to Man City and Chelsea, it was fear that froze his boys in that first half.

On BBC Match of the Day 2, Fabregas said, "I've never seen him like that before. It worked. Maybe he should do it more often." His smile told  us that his last comment was a joke.

Many a true word spoken in jest.

Can we have Howard Webb at Burnley? Can we have him for the Aston Villa game as well?

Wilshere and Szczesny give Arsenal far more authority and guts

By Myles Palmer

Arsenal 2 Barcelona 1

Villa 26, Van Persie 78, Arshavin 83

____________________________

The key player in the Nou Camp will be Szczesny.

So pray that nothing happens to Arsenal’s goalkeeper between now and Tuesday, March 8th.

Barcelona’s style is cleverly-timed runs onto sharp little passes, which c reates a lot of one-on-one chances with the keeper.

Wojciech Szczesny’s fine positional judgement makes him a master of making opponents shoot into the side-netting or just past the post.

On the goal, he was a bit unlucky because David Villa, a razor finisher in these situations, slotted between his legs.

By contrast, he got lucky on the loose ball after his save, when the scrambling Messi headed in but was flagged offside. Messi wasn't offside.

For me, Szczesny was Arsenal’s best player last night for that reason. Making Messi miss was the name of the game.

Yes, Koscielny played his finest game in an Arsenal shirt.

Yes, Jack Wilshere played with remarkable authority at the heart of the team. England need to play Jack football, Fabio - not Capello football.

Yes, of course, CL knock-out ties are a game of four halves.

Arsenal lost the first half 1-0 and won the second half 2-0 and halves three and four will roll round 20 days from now.

Arsenal raised their tempo after half-time and the game turned on 68 when Keita and Arshavin came on.

Keita replaced Villa to stiffen Barca's midfield, which was running out of steam, and allowed young Busquets to go ball-hunting further up the field.

Arshavin’s arrival (for Song) allowed him to link in a cool manner with Clichy, who played a killer ball forward into the box with his right-foot and gave Van Persie a chance to hit a mighty left-foot shot on the half- volley inside the near post of Victor Valdes for 1-1.

Valdes has always had flaky moments. That blunder by allowed Arsenal back into a game that Barcelona were still playing mostly in Arsenal's half.

Still, defending deeper can be good. You can only counter-attack if your opponents are in your half of the field. You can attack too much in a game. If you attack less, you often score more.

Frankly, Fabregas, Eboue and Walcott had been crap.

All three played crap. Only a blinkered, badge-kissing nincompoop would say any of those three played well last night.

Arsenal had nothing on the right flank but now, suddenly, that was where the winning goal came from after a fabulous move.

The cool Koscielny picked up the ball in his penalty area, passed to Bendtner, who passed infield to Wilshere, then quickly forward to Fabregas, who instantly released Nasri with a superb ball down the right flank.

Nasri could have tried the obvious with a low cross to the far post but chose instead to play a lovely pass which allowed Arshavin to curl his sidefoot shot behind Abidal and into the net from 15 yards.

That quality goal gave Arsenal their first victory against Barcelona and it set the seal on the pulsating, rocking, thrilling night that the Emirates has needed since 2006.

Sporting Gijon was a factor last night because game was much harder than the Wolves game was for Arsenal .

After two and half years of staggering success, and intensifying pressure, Barcelona are showing signs of burn-out, so Pep has to husband his resources very carefully.

Coming back off an international break, which is mostly where Barcelona d rop their points, he conceded an early goal at Gijon in a game that was very passionate, intense and physical, since Gijon are fighting for their lives just above the drop-zone.

I was really enjoying the game but as the second half went on I was thinking : This is taking a lot out of Barcelona !

Indeed, it was a helluva battle that was taking a lot out of both sides.

Just as the commentators began to say that David Villa was about to be taken off, he glided onto a wonder-pass from Messi and chipped the keeper from the edge of the box and it finished 1-1.

Success brings a heavy schedule.

The more games you win, the more the pressure is on you. To handle that you need character and guts. Wilshere and Szczesny have given the team a lot more personality and authority than it had last year.

Big characters, big difference.

As Rufus Thomas said, age ain’t nothin’ but a number.
