香港盃形勢雖然混亂，但外國認為冠軍應不出「軍事出擊」、「威爾頓」及「將男」三匹主隊馬，反而不看好英、愛法、澳的參戰馬。在近年香港有馬主以超高價入口頂級自購馬，以挑戰四歲經典系列的情況下，這個現象毫不出奇。
港隊接連兩屆失落香港短途錦標予日本隊後，隨住「龍王」退役，今年港隊又有第二梯隊接班，「友瑩格」與「幸福指數」都是備受看好可重奪這錦標的爭勝分子，亦少不了前度盟主「天久」。
