Arsenal vs Chelsea preview
Arsenal vs Chelsea (1600 hr london 29 nov)
It's not easy to write anything say 20 hours before the kickoff , but for this generation of Arsenal team since 2006-2007 season , after watching over 150 live games .. it's time to give some analysis before this BIG game !!
As you know , Arsenal is an attacking team under Arsene Wenger and their result depends on pacing , quick passing and fluency . If they can control their rhythm of ball passing , creating the space by interchanging the positions , then we can expect some goals can be scored , no matter who will score. During the period of "Special One" Mourinho's Chelsea could find a way to disturb the movement of Arsenal's way to play football , that's the reason why Wenger's record against Mourinho was so poor. Now it's Carlo Ancelotti's Chelsea while Anelka and Drogba are in good form this season , so before Arsenal find their chances to score against a solid defensive team , can they keep Drogba and Anelka quiet ? Can Almunia avoid any mistakes during the match ? Can Vermaelen and Gallas combination find a way to stop Chelsea scoring before Arsenal score ? Can Eboue be able to play a left back ?
In the midfield , we can expect Song and Denilson who will play both holding midfielders to battle against Essien. Can Fabregas play forward and give few assists to Nasri , Eduardo and Arshavin ? Obviously last season Wenger has made a mistake by not playing Arshavin during the semi final of FA Cup against Chelsea so it's first time for Arshavin to face Terry and Cech !! Have Arshavin recovered from the exit of World Cup final ? Have Eduardo recovered fully physically and mentally and will play like the same Eduardo before that horror incident ?? Can Nasri find a chance to put the ball into the back of the net tomorrow ?
Is there any plan B tomorrow , will Vela finally show what he has done for Mexico team if Eduardo still is not able to find his same sense of scoring ? How will Rosicky play collectively with Arshavin in 2nd half and can he score again inside the penalty box?
Remember Arsenal have to play collectively and there may be only 2 or 3 chances to score so they need to play the right ball at the right time. I believe above players have to step up and show their ability . As per Wenger said : It is their time to show they grow up , and people will not consider they are the young team anymore.
So Wenger's 3rd generation must deliver NOW on behalf of their manager , who brought those youngsters from somewhere no one notice to a global platform where several million people watch their style of football at the same time tomorrow . Apart from Arshavin , Gallas , Vermaelen , Rosicky and Sagna who are aleady the established players when joining this team ..those other players still have not won anything yet , but at the same time they are earning 40k-80k sterling per week !!! Frankly I don't care whether Walcott can play World Cup for England or not , but first of all he must show his ability right now for a team who pay him..anything else is always 2nd priority .
Probable Squad : Almunia , Sagna , Gallas , Vermaelen , Eboue , Song , Denilson , Fabregas , Arshavin , Eduardo , Nasri.
Substitute : Fabianski , Silvestre , Traore , Ramsey , Rosicky , Walcott , Vela .
It was a disappointing game and result.
Fans left the stadium around 10 mins from the final whistle so guess they also felt the same way.
Under the pouring rain and facing a hard core team like Chelsea, they looked spot on and efficient while Arsenal looked a bit fancy and flowery. Within a 4-min span towards the end of the first half, the game was decided. It might be a bit harsh to say it was Vermaelen’s fault. The fact is, the entire team VP's role? Seems no one can!
